Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about how this calculator works.

How do two discounts combine?

They stack one after the other, not added together. 25% off followed by 10% off on a 1,000 price gives 750, then 675 — a total saving of 32.5%, not 35%. This calculator applies them in that real-world order.

Is tax charged before or after the discount?

In most shops sales tax is charged on the discounted price, so this calculator adds tax at the very end, after all discounts — matching how receipts are usually printed.

What does “effective discount” mean?

It is your total saving as a single percentage of the original price. It is the fairest way to compare two offers that use different combinations of discounts.

Can I calculate a 100% discount?

Yes — a 100% discount makes the item free (any tax you enter would then be charged on zero, so the final price stays zero). Discounts above 100% are not allowed.

Is my data private?

Completely. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored, or shared.
