Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about how this calculator works.

Should I include the end date?

It depends on what you are counting. “Days between” (for example, a countdown) normally excludes the end date. Counting booked days — hotel nights are the opposite case: check-out day is not charged — but for leave days, rentals and deadlines, people usually count both the first and last day, so tick the box to add 1 day.

How are the years, months and days worked out?

By real calendar arithmetic — full calendar years first, then full months, then the remaining days — using true month lengths and leap years, not a rough days-divided-by-365 estimate.

What if both dates are the same day?

The difference is 0 days, or 1 day if you tick “Include the end date” — one full day counted from the start of that day to its end.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes. February having 29 days in a leap year is built into the calculation automatically.

Is my data private?

Completely. Everything runs in your browser — your dates are never uploaded, stored, or shared.
